The attractive, and often imaginatively designed, modern shopping malls in Dubai are one of the highlights of shopping here. They are generally spacious and air conditioned, offering a welcome escape from the heat. Here you will find virtually every kind of shop that you can imagine, from supermarkets or card shops, to cloths emporiums and specialist perfume shops. However, malls are more than just a place to buy goods; in the evenings and on the weekends especially, the more popular malls are abuzz as people window shop, meet friends, drink coffee and people watch.
During the Dubai Shopping Festival and Dubai Summer Surprises, the larger malls are venues for special events such as dancing or magic shows. These performances are always popular and involve acts from all around the world. The malls also feature numerous raffles during these months – the prize for the lucky few is usually a car.
Most malls have food courts offering a wonderful variety of cuisine, from the ubiquitous hamburger to Arabic meze, Japanese or Mexican food. Some malls also have children's play areas, arcade games, and cinemas and most have convenient, extensive and free parking. |
